VIDEO PRODUCTION APPROVAL

So, there you are. You know your organization could benefit from producing a video, but you just can't get anyone else on board.

First let's look at it from a historical perspective. It wasn't that long ago that video production was prohibitively expensive for most smaller organizations - especially non-profits. But in just the last decade, as with the iPod and so many other technology gadgets, video production equipment has become mainstream. Therefore, the costs associated with quality video production have been considerably reduced as well.

So if the boss is having heart palpitations at the mere mention of video, that's probably why. Put his concerns at ease and tell him that due to recent advances, it might be less expensive than he thinks. Let him know that you are aware of a company that would be happy to provide a no obligation consultation at no charge (The Imagery Lab, of course!). Ask him if you can do some "tire kicking" to find out more. If he still balks, stop. Obviously, don't try to shove it down his throat unless you're not particularly fond of your job.

There might be resistance from other areas. Your legal department may be protective of confidentiality or compliance issues.

Others may simply be camera-shy and don't like the thought of being videotaped.

All of their concerns are real. And all of their concerns can be addressed. Be up front with them, but again, don't be pushy. Let them know that the production can be tailored to fit their requirements.

Ultimately, you will need a team of key personnel that assists you and your producer throughout the project. It is important to gain their trust and their approval in order to create a video that will be successful and benefits the whole organization.

Good luck!
